Excoriation - Painless Suffering
Grounded in NY-style Death Metal ala Suffocation, (early) Cannibal Corpse & Skinless, may I present for your listening pleasure Excoriation? This 3-track demo, while not exactly offering anything new you haven't before in the aforementioned bands, is still brimming with enough brutal heaviness to impress the hardened old school DM fan (which includes DemonGrinder, Yuri & yours truly on this board alone).
Kicking off with the title track, this is some cool shit, to put it bluntly. Production-wise it sounds great, thankfully not bogged down by muffled cheese in the speakers (though what band these days is pleased with their demo production?) The musicianship is tight, with some crackerjack blast-beating from drummer Matt Calabrese. The vocals of Doug Rogers are standard DM affair, growling incoherently one minute to screeching his lungs out the next. Jeremy Herr on bass/vocals and one Coleman Edwards on guitar complete the line-up, and second track in, Involuntary Suicide, the band simply ... clicks. I dare say this technical venture will be the direction Excoriation will head in?
Innocence Severed completes this tasty wee demo, and though not for everyone, if you enjoy munching on juicy corpse-maggots then you may get a kick from Excoriation.
Incidently, the artwork was painted by Vincent Locke, he of Cannibal Corpse & Deadworld fame, and would make a nifty lookin' tshirt (hint, hint ...)
