NECROPHOBIC – DEATH TO ALL
(Regain Records)
Sweden’s Necrophobic were always a close second to my favoured death/black/satanic metal band, Lord Belial, who called it quits suddenly and unexpectedly in January 2009. They were quite similar, by way that they both played classy, Maiden-esque metal, though Necrophobic were perhaps the more aggressive of the two. However, with the release of Death to All, an album leagues ahead of their previous record Hrimthursum, Necrophobic have charged ahead, spreading darkness and despair with a record of horns-raised metal; think early Bathory jigging it up with Hammerfall (let’s keep it in Sweden, shall we) .
There’s some great songs on offer here – The Tower, For Those Who Stayed Satanic and the epic title track (all 8-minutes 44-seconds of it). Like Lord Belial Necrophobic are splendid musicians and the playing is tasty to a fault. Check out some of the catchy riffs and sweet solos layered within – Wings of Death boasts these in spades.
The golden goblet of blood has fallen from the cold grasp of Lord Belial. The beast named Necrophobic retrieves it, raising it high in its fiery grip. Hail, Necrophobic!
