Grand Magus is a metal trio from Sweden, who starting in 2001 have managed to put out four albums of high quality, retro styled, very heavy, metal.
The most important component of Grand Magus was singer / guitarist Janne "JB" Christoffersson who was also a member of better-known retro-metal Swedish band Spiritual Beggars.
The Grand Magus song catalog runs from their earlier, primitive, slow stoner metal Sabbath-type doom metal songs to mid-tempo NWONHM / retro-metal pieces played in their most recent albums.
Needless to say Iron Will is somewhat similar to Grand Magus previous albums, the centerpiece of the music being JB's amazing unique singing voice, which can be best described as a cross between Ian Gillan and Glenn Hughes, but his guitar playing chops and songwriting skills have progressed inmensely.
Iron Will has a non-stop array of amazing mid-tempo songs. Every song has the perfect combination of melodic singing and heaviness without being repetitive. If this album had been released 30 years ago, it would have been declared a classic.
If you are a fan of stoner, doom or heavy blues rock, you must get this album NOW!
Once you've listened to it, you would ask yourself.. how come i've never heard of this guys before.. and will proceed to buy the rest of their albums!
