WRECK OF THE HESPERUS - TERMINAL DIRGE This Irish trio remind me of an Eyehategod review I read a few years ago in Kerrang! Whilst supporting red-neck faves Pantera, the fans did not take to Eyehategod at all. Apparently their feed-back jolts and long, droning trudges of sludge were not to the local fan's tastes, who wanted nothing but jump-up-and-down mosh-dancing metal. Applauding the annoucement that Eyehategod were about to play their last number, vocalist Michael Williams then deadpanned, "It lasts 15-minutes, mother-fuckers!" Excellent. I know the bass player on this CD, one Cathal (Colly) Rodgers, who works in Dublin's Sound Cellar, metal shop specialists. Listening to this you'd never imagine that he shakes his fist to Iced Earth, Iron Maiden and Hammerfall et all. This is completely the opposite of what our Colly plays air-guitar to. Drummer Ray Keenaghan has time for little naps in between beats, whilst guitarist and vocalist Andrew Cunningham barks and snarls such blasphemous lyrics as Lo, behold. Christ isn't risen after all ... Fans of wrist-slitting sludge and doom will wallow in this electric funeral-march. With its 'borrowed' samples and choir snippets (?) the fucking thing is just painful to listen to, though some of the more musical-masochists of you may get a perverted kick out it. they are a good band..i have a few tracks from their previous demo...good slow heavy sludge...well worth checking out if you like bands like Corrupted, Noothgrush and Funeral Doom stuff.... _________________ I reject your reality and replace it with my own!
