Dave Mustaine has publicly admitted that he has been trying to musically outdo to his old bandmates in Metallica, ever since he got kicked out of that band.
On a few occasions he's managed not only to catch up to Metallica but to blow them away in musical terms, case in point: Megadeth's Rust in Peace, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia albums easily surpass anything Metallica was doing at the time.

Things are no different in 2009.
Megadeth's turn to surpass Metallica's Death Magnetic new found love for recycling old school thrash after their disastrous St. Anger album has come in the form of their new album Endgame.

The album wastes no time in announcing that Endgame is as heavy as anything Megadeth has recorded with its guitar laden 2:26 second long instrumental Dialectic Chaos.

This album is fast, thrashy and heavy.
Gone are the melodies that made Megadeth's songs memorable and in their place we find extreme guitar interplay and soloing.
Dave has pretty much given up trying to sing in Endgame and his vocals sound tired to the point of going out of tune in some songs.
Unfortunately, it seems that Dave has gone overboard in trying to show the world he can be heavier than Metallica, and has discarded anything that can be deemed catchy and melodic.. and the whole album has a forced heavy-for-the-sake-of-being-heavy vibe to it. With a few exceptions, there is not much to distinguish one song from another when you first listen to the album.

Endgame is so heavy it crushes Metallica's Death Magnetic with one blow. The guitar interplay in Endgame surpasses anything Metallica has ever done.
Sadly, the brilliant musicianship is not followed by equally brilliant songwriting.

I was expecting something along the lines of Megadeth's great comeback album "The System Has Failed, " a bit more from the man who wrote some of metal's most memorable songs..
