Shadows Fall - The War Within (2004)
Hi Kids
Welcome to Metalcore101, your guide to the new type of metal hyped by records labels in their desperation to sell records, since the demise of nu-metal.
What is Metalcore?
Metalcore at its worse is an over-hyped hybrid of derivative Gothenburg guitar riffing, sappy sugar-coated choruses highly reminiscent of the worse cheesy 80's hair metal and a whole lot of clean overproduction.
Just imagine you crossed At the Gates with Stryper and you have metalcore.
The guitars are loud, the production is great, and double bass drum work is amazing, the singing goes from highly melodic to pseudo-screaming, and the songs...
well, if you've actually heard a good quantity of metal albums you would know the songs are boring and have been done a million times before.
Shadows Fall sounds like a cover band gone stray, covering Stryper, Maiden and your favorite Swedish Metal without any real identity. Technically proficient they are, original they are not.
Here are more (suspiciously) similar sounding bands:
-Killswitch Engage
-Trivium
-God Forbid
-Chimaira
-As a lay dying
-Lamb of God
and the list will grow longer as more and more record labels try to capitalize in the new metal fad..
next please.. _________________ "I believe the common character of the universe is not harmony, but hostility, chaos and murder." -Werner Herzog |
