INCANTATION – DECIMATE CHRISTENDOM (LISTENABLE RECORDS)
Album number 7 for this uncompromising US death metal outfit, and it has to be said that these guys are relentless, delivering solid, quality extreme metal time and time again. In a time when US death metal is at an all-time high it’s reassuring to know that old school masters like Incantation can still knock ‘em out with the best of them.
‘Decimate Christendom’ makes the snarling debut of guitarist John McEntee, who stepped up to the plate when long time vocalist Mike Saez left. He does a competent job of growling his way through the 12 songs for your listening pleasure, which are brimming with melodic distortion and furious rhythms. Wait ‘til you hear the drumming on this album, incredible doesn't begin to describe drummer Kyle Severn. I love the drum sound on this record, in fact, the production is amazing, courtesy of long-time Incantation associate producer Bill Korecky.
It is difficult to pick out individual tracks, for there’s a varied mix on offer – from doom laden six-minute plus funeral processions to blink-and-you’ll-miss-them blast beat blitzers. All said and done, ‘Decimate Christendom’ is a satisfying slab of US death from a band guaranteed to deliver the goods.
